INAPPROPRIATE POTTYING

If your dog or cat is suddenly having issues there is likely a reason. One of the most common reasons for inappropriate urine elimination is urinary tract infections and/or crystals. Both are simple to diagnose with a urinalysis at your vet clinic. CASA gets a number of animals who end up surrendered to the shelter, because they are suddenly pottying on things they shouldn't be or outside of their litter box or yard. Our first step after hearing these symptoms is a urinalysis and it should be your first step too. They cannot tell you when it hurts to go, so they are forced to try and get your attention. It could simply hurt too much to make it to where they should be going, also.

Cats are very clean animals by nature. If their litter box is not kept really clean they will not want to use it. Picking up around the house to eliminate piles of clothes or other items will also help. Maybe something in your home has changed? A new child, spouse, pet, home, or a human suffering from stress themselves can also leave your pet stressed. They feed off you and their surroundings. Have a serious sit down with yourself and assess any possible changes to the world around you and your pet, it may lead you to a reason your animal is acting out if it is not medical related.

Further help on this topic is now located on the Pet Guidance Page.
